For sixteen years the lovers were forced to roam the countryside, all the time knowing that they were being constantly pursued by the furious Fionn. She had been promised in marriage to the king Fionn Mac Cool (read the legend). They ran away together but Fionn’s pursuit prevented them from spending two consecutive nights in the same place.
