He belongs to the choir of Principalities and is mainly focused on keeping heaven pure of corruption. He is the angel who carried Enoch to heaven and back to earth. He is identified with the angel of the 5th Seal in Revelation 6:9-11, and is believed to be the angel who opens the bottomless pit. He is also sometimes identified with Abaddon, an angel believed by some to be the devil. There are references to a similar figure in Babylonian texts which refer to him as Rag or Ragumu, and in Sumerian texts as Rig.Â
